Recent Photos of Male and Female Pine Grosbeaks
I find it challenging to get a good composition that is sharp, and free of twigs in front of the subject. The Pine Grosbeaks are always a favourite at the parks , especially the brilliant male. He has been showing up more and lost his shyness. The females are beautiful as well but a yellow colour.

Gorgeous photos, Jane. I agree with you, it is very difficult to sometimes get clear, unobstructed compositions of the birds. I just use the lone center focus point. It helps to at least get the bird’s eye in focus, even if there are twigs.

I often do use the centre point and crop after, better than getting in the “thirds” and missing part of the bird. it depends on the day.

Yes, he is a catch-especially an uncluttered view in good light.

Great shots of the Grosbeaks. They always frequented our feeders when we were on the acreage, along with the Evening Grosbeaks and Bluejays, which made a colorful display. I haven’t seen any Bluejays or Grosbeaks in Lacombe, I guess not the right habitat for them.

i never see E Grosbeaks in the city, seems most sightings are at farmsteads. Bluejays are here but I rarely see them.Would love to get some photos.
