Sleepy Squirrel
It pays to look through your camera. I was so caught up with this squirrel’s behaviour that I forgot to take a photo in the earlier seconds. They would have been priceless photos.
What happened: I saw a squirrel on top of the bird feeder, nothing new, except this one ‘s head was drooped and was starting to lean forward as if he was “nodding off.” I walked closer and saw that he was doing just that , then spoke to him and he jerked and sat up straight, then he stretched his front feet downward in a big stretch while giving a big yawn, pink tongue showing.
Those were the photos I missed but I like to affirm, or rationalize that I was living in “the moment”. I did click a few more which I will share here:
Nodding off again…
aware that I am present…
succumbing to sleep…
wide-eyed and awake. Now leave me alone!
That is such a cute squirrel. You really got some nice photos of it too. He looks cold with the tail over his back like that.

Yes I am happy to have managed to capture the intimacy of that moment.

How utterly gorgeous – and all happening outside every day, just living away. Just gorgeous.
Thank goodness for people like you, who take photos!

Yes they are awesome but fierce hunters seen them take off with tiny red ones like yours and poof of feathers told of a lost feathered friend and one night the cat was on the stoop and he came in for her and banged against the door she almost had a heart attack only wants to go out when the dog does now that us what I get for providing tall trees to hunt from and food for the wee ones so now all feeders are tucked close to cover

Squirrels can be total pests and harass the birds and keep them away. It is all part of nature.I still like their antics.
